The department took this step after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius requested 3.8 billion euros in support of Ukraine.

The German Ministry of Finance has unofficially approved a request from the Ministry of Defense to allocate additional funds to help Ukraine, Bild am Sonntag reports, citing sources in the department.

According to the publication, the department took this step after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius invited 3.8 billion euros in support of Ukraine.

This is due to the fact that almost all of the allocated 7.1 billion euros were used, and only 300 million remained for the purchase of new weapons and ammunition, the material says.

Unforeseen expenses in the budget must be submitted for approval by the German parliament in June, the publication notes.

According to an unnamed source in the German Ministry of Finance, Berlin should supply more weapons to Kyiv this year.

“If we can achieve consensus in the government, we will find ways (to do this) in the current financial year,” the source said.
