Posted on 11/06/2024

The Presidents of Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Vladimir Zelensky and Jose Manuel Ramos-Horta, held the first meeting in the history of bilateral relations.

The Office of the President reported this.

The leaders met on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue summit in Singapore. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the President of Timor-Leste for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and important UN resolutions condemning Russian aggression.

Also thanked for confirming his participation in the Global Peace Summit. He noted the importance of the countries of Southeast Asia joining this event and emphasized that one of the key issues there will be the food security clause of the Peace Formula.

It is very important for us to begin the process of establishing a just world. Russia does not want to stop the war. Therefore, together with the whole world, we must take steps to bring peace closer,” Zelensky noted.

The President declared his readiness to develop bilateral cooperation with Timor-Leste, in particular in the supply of agricultural products. He also invited Ramos-Horta to visit Ukraine.
