British Defense Secretary: Our weapons destroyed 30% of the Russian Black Sea Fleet

Posted on 26/04/2024

Kyiv has recently made great strides against the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Now London wants to increase its commitment to arming Ukraine with a special type of drone.

The UK is increasing spending on drones for Ukraine.

The British government wants to provide Kyiv with 10,000 drones.

This was stated by British Defense Minister Grant Shapps on Thursday evening after a visit to Kyiv.

“I am redoubling our commitment to arming Ukraine with the latest drones, sourced directly from the UK's world-leading defense industry – straight from the factory to the front. “I urge international partners to join the UK’s efforts,” Shapps said at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to a statement from his ministry, these are mainly so-called FPV (first person view) drones. The UK statement said they were successfully used to bypass Russian air defenses and hit their targets.

It will also provide 1,000 kamikaze drones, as well as reconnaissance and maritime drones.

Shapps said Ukrainian forces used British weapons to destroy almost 30 percent of the Russian Black Sea fleet.

According to the statement, drones have proven to be highly effective. Together with Latvia, the UK wants to lead an international coalition to build drone capabilities in Ukraine.
