Details: Szijjártó stated that Ukraine had been “pursuing an anti-Hungarian policy” for ten years.

Quote: "The Hungarian community in Transcarpathia had its rights taken away, a Hungarian was beaten to death during forced conscription, an oil pipeline essential for Hungary's energy supply was attacked, and now Hungarian military leaders are banned from entering Ukraine."

Details: Szijjártó added that Kyiv's actions hardly merit support for its European integration.

"And in return, they expect our support for their EU membership? They can't be serious," he said.

Background:

  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Ukraine has banned entry to three high-ranking Hungarian military officers in response to Budapest's decision to impose sanctions against Ukrainian service members.
  • Sibikha said this was a retaliatory measure against Hungary's ban on entry for a number of Ukrainian military personnel, which he called "unfounded."
