The Russian Federation has problems with the production of new ships, and those that have them are afraid to use them in the Azov-Black Sea region.
The head of the center for strategic communications of the Defense Forces of southern Ukraine, Dmitry Pletenchuk, announced this on air at the “Unified News” telethon.
As for the surface ships themselves, no matter what you call them – a small missile ship, a missile frigate – they are all surface ships, they all face the same problem: going out into the Black Sea is very dangerous. Yes, they make them in Tatarstan, those that go to the Azov-Black Sea region, but this also causes a lot of trouble. Two of these ships from the last batch of five returned to Rostov-on-Don, one of them has already been destroyed, one has not yet passed the test. And another one – unfinished. Therefore, in fact, I can say that the latest series is not present in the Azov-Black Sea region, in principle, except for one unit – this is “Askold,” Pletenchuk noted.
He also recalled that the Russians at one time built frigates as carriers of cruise missiles, but they were supplied with gas turbine equipment by the Nikolaev Zarya plant, which stopped supplying equipment in 2014.
The Russians were forced to sell unfinished ships to India and switch to smaller ships of the Karakurt or Serpukhov type, which for some reason caught fire in Baltiysk, Pletenchuk added.
