The department notes that last year’s increase made it possible to balance the energy system and carry out the necessary repairs.

The increase in electricity tariffs for the population in Ukraine last year made it possible to balance the energy system and carry out the necessary repairs. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy Nikolai Kolesnik on the air of the United News telethon.

“I would like to note that the slight increase in the tariff that occurred in 2023 added 3 GW to the system, which made it possible to safely complete the heating season,” the official notes.

He also listed what other reasons made it possible to save electricity, that the population began to use electricity sparingly due to rising costs.

“It's a set of actions. First of all, it was possible to economically balance the subjects of the electric energy market, due to which they had the financial ability to carry out restoration measures, prepare for the heating season, and carry out a proper repair campaign, in particular the repair of damaged equipment from preliminary shelling. Thus, the amount of equipment that was ready for the heating season was an additional 3 GW, which made it possible to balance the system between supply and demand,” Kolesnik added.
