Environmental activists attacked a painting by Claude Monet in a Paris museum

Posted on 07/06/2024

At the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Claude Monet's painting "Poppies" was attacked by climate activists.

The Riposte Alimentaire organization, which organized the action, published the photo on social networks.

Activists pasted a poster onto the canvas depicting a “nightmare” version of the field in 2100.

This is exactly the picture that Claude Monet would probably paint in 2100, unless drastic measures are taken to curb climate change before then. Let us remind you that this scenario is not the most pessimistic, since it assumes a temperature increase of more than +4°C, the report says.

In the video, the activist, wearing a T-shirt with the words “+4° hell,” exclaimed: “This nightmare picture in front of you is what awaits us if there is no alternative.”

Riposte alimentaire claims that at +4°C in 2100, southern Europe will be similar to the Sahara, snow will disappear from the Himalayas and the monsoon in northern India will be out of control, which will have a significant impact on agriculture.

The Riposte alimentaire group previously organized similar events on Leonardo da Vinci's La Gioconda and Eugene Delacroix's Leading the People at the Louvre.
