The Earth's poles are covered in ice due to a random combination of factors

<img src=”https://naked-science.ru/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/12214.jpg” alt=”The Earth’s poles were covered in ice due to a random combination of factors”/>Throughout geological history, our planet has had a warm climate. Only twice in the past half a billion years have there been prolonged cold spells, including the current one, which has lasted for about 34 million years. Ice ages were accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but the reasons for this are unclear. In the new work, scientists have built a model combining all the hypotheses of climate cooling. This made it possible to explain the icing of the poles that we are observing now.
